Excalibur Exhibits’ President and Design Director just returned from an exciting week in Dusseldorf at EuroShop. EuroShop occurs every 3 years for 5 days at Messe Dusseldorf. There are 15 halls plus 2 halls used for registration and registration and book sales. It is so much larger than anything we are used to seeing the US! Although there were more exhibitors than three years ago, it did not have the “over the top” feeling of 2008. It is always worth the trip though.
Halls 9 & 10 are devoted to Stand (Exhibit) Construction and Design. There are halls for shopfitting, store fixtures, refrigeration equipment, visual merchandising & point-of-sales marketing, security, and mannequins.
The EDPA, IFES, BDS, ISO, and POPAI were supporting associations and represented by their own stands.
We saw a lot of aluminum extrusions being used. Of course, Excalibur Exhibits is an OSPI (Octanorm Service Partner International) so we were very impressed with the Octanorm stand. Most all of the stands used a lot of fabric, from scrims to dye-sub it was everywhere. Overall the color of white is still dominant. Specialty lighting was used in most of the stands. Of course, that works best on white surfaces to create a mood.
Overall, my impression is of fabric and lighting. We saw quite a bit of printed solid fabric used with an aluminum extrusion to create entire stands. Often, we had to go up to the wall to determine if it was fabric or hard wall construction.
We saw several instances of shapes being cut from fabric and repeated over and over to create a 3-dimensional form.
Specialty lighting was everywhere – and predominantly LED lighting. Custom shaped fixtures made us want them right now but we were often met with blank stares when asked if they have a US distributor. But, they would be happy to export to the US for an order of 10,000 or more.
We are looking forward to attending in 2014!
